Sport for Hope
The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Sport for Hope Programme strives to increase universality in sport by providing young people in developing countries with opportunities to practise sport and be educated on the Olympic values.
Zambia is proud to have been the first recipient country of the Sport for Hope Programme. The establishment of Lusaka’s Olympic Youth Development Centre, which was inaugurated in May 2010, was the flagship project of Sport for Hope.
The multisport facility provides sport-for-all activities accessible to the entire population of Lusaka and develops elite performance for athletes on a local, regional and national level.
“With these Olympic Sports for Hope centres, athletes, young people and communities in developing countries will have the same opportunities as their peers in developed countries to practise sport and be educated on the values of Olympism,” says IOC President Jacques Rogge.
